Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1792, the Democratic Party is the longest continuous party in US history and boasts more registered voters than any other political organization in the world. Today, the Democrats are considered center-left on the political spectrum.

Currently, Democrats control both the US House and the US Senate, a majority of state governorships and a majority of state legislatues. Barack Obama is the 15th Democrat to be President of the United States.
