Newsmakers 1/6: New Whitey Bulger book

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — This week on Newsmakers: former FBI agent Robert Fitzpatrick and author Jon Land.

A new book, “Betrayal,” tells the inside story of a federal agent who tried to sever the ties between the FBI and notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger. Fitzpatrick talks about his first encounter with Bulger and how he ran into an uphill battle when he pushed to get rid of him as a government informant. Land, who has published 30 novels before tackling his first true crime, discusses the challenge in taking on this controversial subject and what he learned about law enforcement. Fitzpatrick also weighs in on corrupt and imprisoned FBI agent John Connolly, who was Bulger’s “handler.”
