Congressional candidates face off

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI)- Election Day is less than two weeks away and the contest for the First Congressional District seat is heating up.

Incumbent Democrat David Cicilline and Republican challenger Brendan Doherty faced off again Wednesday in a WPRO radio debate.

The candidates sparred over several issues during the hour long live debate, including the economy, health care and the cost of higher education.

Eyewitness News caught up with both of the candidates to get their reactions on their latest debate.

"I think the listeners again heard Brendan Doherty double down on his commitment to support Republicans and their agenda", David Cicilline stated.

"I think the people that know me know I"m an independent thinker and when I go to Washington I'll do the right thing for Rhode Island the right thing for America", said Brendan Doherty.

The race for the First Congressional District also includes Independent Candidate David Vogel.
