Wis., Romney campaign settle ballot lawsuit

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state of Wisconsin has settled a federal lawsuit brought by Republican Mitt Romney's campaign seeking more time for military and overseas voters from Wisconsin to return ballots that were sent after a federal deadline for mailing them.

The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board announced the settlement on Wednesday. The lawsuit was filed last week.

The board says it has issued an order extending the time for ballots to be returned in four municipalities that mailed them with less than the required 45 days of transit time.

The board's director says only four ballots are affected and two of them already have been returned by the voters.

A Romney spokesman says the campaign is pleased with the outcome.
