Newsmakers 8/10: Petrarca v. Costantino

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — This week on Newsmakers: a Campaign 2012 debate between Rep. Peter Petrarca and Gregory Costantino, the two Democrats running in House District 44.

Incumbent Peter Petrarca is looking for his sixth term on Smith Hill representing District 44, which includes Lincoln, Johnston and Smithfield. Petrarca is a lawyer and House Speaker Gordon Fox's senior deputy majority leader. His challenger, Gregory Costantino, is vice president of Venda Ravioli in Providence and also a real estate developer. His brother is the former House Finance Committee Chairman Steven Costantino, who is now a member of Gov. Lincoln Chafee's cabinet. They spar over a controversial auto body bill, ethics reform, the economy, 38 Studios, same-sex marriage and more. Voters will be deciding between the two in the primary on Sept. 11.
