Progressives to converge on Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI)- The city of Providence is expected to get a big economic boost this week.

The "Netroots Nation" conference kicks off Thursday at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Thousands of political activists, journalists and bloggers are scheduled to attend.

According to the Associated Press, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman, activist Van Jones and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman are scheduled to speak at the event.

City officials predict this conference will add an estimated $3.5 million into the local economy.

Netroots is a political think tank seeking to bring progressive-minded individuals together and find ways to effectively broadcast their ideals to the public.
