Newsmakers 4/6: Sheldon Whitehouse

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — This week on Newsmakers: U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

With partisan politics putting Washington, D.C., in gridlock, Senator Whitehouse is hoping he can still get his so-called “Buffett Rule” bill passed. The law – officially titled the “Paying a Fair Share Act” – would require those making more than $2 million a year to pay at least 30 percent in income taxes. But critics say the bill is nothing more than a political sideshow, as it does little to reduce the country’s massive budget deficit (estimates are it would add $50 billion in revenue over 10 years). Whitehouse also weighs in on the health care case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
