1st Congressional District Promary: Cicilline vs. Gemma

Joe Kennedy III launches campaign run

BOSTON (WPRI) — Joseph Kennedy III has launched his campaign for the Massachusetts congressional seat now held by retiring U.S . Rep. Barney Frank.

The Democrat released a video announcement on his website Thursday before heading out on a campaign swing through the 4th Congressional District.

Nesi's Notes: The Kennedy name still has clout

Kennedy recently moved from Cambridge to Brookline, part of the newly-redrawn 4th district.

On Thursday, he will take a day-long tour of the district, making stops in Attleboro , Taunton and Westport.

“I believe this country was founded on a simple idea: that every person deserves to be treated fairly, by each other and by their government, but that’s not happening in America anymore,” Kennedy said in his announcement. “I've spoken to people from across the 4th Congressional District  - from Newton to Fall River  - who believe that Washington no longer works for them.  I will work hard to earn every vote and if elected bring that fight for fairness to the US Congress.”

Kennedy is the son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy II and a grandson of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
