PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rep. John G. Edwards has introduced a new bill that will require political parties to file a report of all contributions from a single source that exceed $100.
Under the new bill, action committees advocating for a charter-amending question on a ballot would also have to file a report of all contributions over $100.
The bill would include any town or city charter amendment and election ballots considered at financial town meetings.
“It’s very simple,” Rep. Edwards said. “This is about increasing transparency. It only makes sense for committees that advocate for a charter question at financial town meetings to file reports, just like with everything else. Sometimes charter questions have the potential to make a major change in how a city or town does business. ”
The House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on the new bill ( 2012-H 7060) Wednesday, February 15 at the State House.
