EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — This week on Newsmakers: State Education Commissioner Deborah Gist.
Test results for the state standardized test known as NECAP show high school students are struggling with math – only 30 percent are considered “proficient. ” Calling the results “frustrating,” Commissioner Gist says she hopes rising middle school scores are an indication that better results are on the way. Gist also discusses the state’s plan to file for a No Child Left Behind waiver and why it wants to do so.
